Clean Planet launches domestic division

Commercial cleaning company Clean Planet has entered the domestic cleaning market with the launch of its own domestic division.

Clean Planet’s general manager Tony Pattison said the launch is a natural progression for the company after conducting offshore market research which found a trend towards more people hiring home cleaning services.

“We discovered the percentage of people using home cleaning services was increasing due to an ageing baby boomer population and millennials looking for more free time,” said Pattison.

“Organic growth in the domestic cleaning market is much faster than growth in the commercial cleaning sector.”

While Clean Planet provides commercial cleaning services in Auckland, Hamilton, Waikato, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington and Christchurch, its new domestic cleaning service will be offered first in Auckland before being rolled out to Clean Planet’s existing branches.

“We’re looking to introduce the domestic service to our existing regions within six months,” said Pattison, who adds demand for the new service is continuing at a steady rate.

“Within two weeks of the launch we had three franchisees sign on. Our goal was to sign at least one franchisee each month.”

Clean Planet has also introduced its own Uber inspired booking app, which quotes domestic cleaning services based on time, rather than the size of the site to be cleaned.

“The user purchases a period of time they want the cleaners to be cleaning, the app notifies the cleaners using the app that a job has become available, and the cleaner can accept or decline the job,” explained Pattison.

The software is currently only available for Clean Planet franchisees in Auckland, but is expected to be rolled out to franchisees across the country. Clean Planet is also considering developing the software for its commercial division.

“We want our foundation to become more technology focused. Cleaning is still a very paper-based industry, and we plan to push into utilising the technologies that are available. We want to bring more functionality to our systems so we can be seen as a leader of cleaning technology.”

Along with the move into the domestic cleaning market, Clean Planet will continue to expand in the commercial cleaning sector.

“We’re not taking our eye off that ball. We plan to continue growing the commercial side into new regions and are now looking for master franchisors in many regions in New Zealand.”
